I was drawn to the entrance of this portal by sound, the song of a bird I had never heard, and as I stopped to listen to its singing I noticed the reflection of the forest in the creek's pool at my feet. An entrance to a portal! Aha! What tricks a still water surface can play on one's vision.
I am searching. The first step, as with entering any new space, is finding the doorway. From childhood through college and still now, I have read books, heard stories, seen pictures, that speak of portals to other dimensions and worlds. Indigenous folklore from lands near and distant, cultures living and buried, include very real and specific accounts of finding such pathways hidden throughout the world.
The thresh-hold of the doorway pictured here, where steel and stone channel the trees, sky, earth and blue into a cool rushing ionic cascade.
Lately, in my search, I have found a few of these doorways. Portals leading to a magical, mysterious, mystical world. My time in these places has amounted to mere hours at a time. Though as I learn to see more in the landscape, the locations are revealed slowly.
Not as placid as it first appeared.
Emerging into the golden glimmer inside the portal, where nothing is as it was though it is all still here in energy, form, and molecular sturcture almost identical from the origin.
